I prefer the Reef Runner 800 Series. Eriedescent has been my
top producing bait for the last 3 years. I believe that the wobble and the baits ability to "seek out a strike" is irresistible to those big Eyeballs. Personally, I prefer the bait to be slightly out of tune as it will dart to and froe mimicking a wounded baitfish. In the event that the bait is completely out of tune I would suggest ordering a Reef Runner "Tune A Fish". Or you can use a pair of pliers..

The only problem with out of tune is that you dont know how deep that bait is. Also if you are running more than one bait on that side you have to be careful not to get it into another bait

You definitely want to fine tune reef runners as you will have no idea how deep they are running or where they are in your spread when making turns or trolling tight to structure. I often power tune them with the boat going 3 to 5 mph so I know they will run straight and dig in at all speeds. They will still kick out every once and a while to hunt out a strike, but that has more to due with speed changes - that is one of the reasons in-line boards are great as they add some excellent action to a crank. :)

I also run stick baits behind my slide divers with 50 foot leads, removing one hook from the ripstick 700 adds a great slow roll to the bait that seems to work great in the fall and early spring.

No doubt tuning makes a huge difference. Thanks for the detailed information. It's super important when trolling in strong current in the St Lawrence River.

Sheldon some of the info you give up here always amazes me you seem to be a man of many tricks.............. on the note of boards wow how you tought me how to rig them is simply amazing, i mean a night and day differance in how they track, act, and react, I hated the boards until I rigged them your way I cant believe off shore dont just sell them the way you modified them they are so much nicer to run then the way they come from the factory....... thank you thank you thank you

Mann's. They don't need to go "hunt" for bites. The fish come to them.

I prefer to use my pliers for unhooking fish....not fixing crankbaits....

Lurh Jenson and Yozuri makes my favourite divers...for walleye and salmon.

you think reef runners get out of tune w/ one walleye, imagine what spring salmon do to them.....

i have a severe love/hate relationship with reef runners...

also, their hooks are the absolute worst hooks on the planet for strength...might as well use rubber hooks.

tuned and hooks upgraded (triple grips for walleye and owner st41's for salmon), they are one of the finest cranks on the market.

reef runners are a pain as they always need tuning but they simple catch fish and lots of them

I have caught fish with all that listed in the poll, but YOZURI is the lure i have confidence and it has always produced decent sizes and numbers for me. One year i tried Muskie lures and i got few fish on them also. I believe trolling techniques are much more important than lure!!!
