This is a really good topic and like many of you I put a call into my insurance company rep Mark at Dalton Timmis at 1-888-385-8466. I have been informed in writing that my insurance covers me totally for the vehicle, the recovery, the replacement costs of a rental, and environmental costs etc. either under collision or comprehensive. I guess it depends on who you go with and what type of insurance you get but coverage is certainly available.

It can't hurt to have the best coverage lol... but the fact remains... trucking it is not for everyone and only drive out on ice you are very familiar with on waters you know. I have a skidoo and quad for other areas and conditions so the truck is only used for a few trips to certain areas where its too far to walk or sled.

good job perch guy.

i've never heard an exclusion for auto's on ice, but I don't work in auto, so I'm not about to say for sure.

i've also heard that insurance will pick up the extraction costs, IF the cover is there.

but nothing beats getting the word from your broker in writing.

DO NOT ACCEPT an answer that includes "well, each insurance company has fine print" ... THAT"S THE BROKERS JOB - THATS WHY THEY GET PAID THE COMMISSION TO SELL THE PRODUCT!

its up to the broker to READ that fine print - not you, the Insured.

Remind your broker that's why your paying them 12.5% commission on your auto policy.

I asked my insurance broker and was told that if the vehicle " collided " with the lake bottom , collision insurance covered it . This wasn't in writing and I find it to be questionable but it is what I was told by McDougall's

McDougall is a quality broker in the Belleville area.

We use them to sell our products.

northof7, I would go back with an email, and state this is a concern to you, enough of a concern to "consider" changing insurance companies, and potentially even brokers, if you cannot get a straight answer.

you (we) all pay enough for auto insurance. the least we can do is have the piece of mind that we are covered for our activities.

if I ice fished (I don't) I'd absolutely have in writing that I'm covered if I'm driving on the ice. I'd ensure if the specific insurance company I was with covered me for my on ice activities .... if they didn't, I'd look for another.

i think for ice fisherman, when you consider your auto risk annually, driving on the ice is likely the highest risk you are exposed to. better ensure your covered.

in my mind its like buying home insurance but not being sure if your covered against fire.

Nice bike, what's something like that worth? How do you get it into your truck to transport?

Got a pair of steel ramps for loading... that particular bike belongs to a buddy of mine / neighbor / forum member... but it is a nice bike... I have a yam big bear 4x4 that I take around usually :) we know the river better than most so our driving area is fairly large lol. If you can gain access thru one of the private access points there is a ton of ice out there almost everywhere

I fish lots during the summer in that area but never been there in the winter. where are you launching your bike & truck from?
I would love to try down there. I usually launch the boat at danger narrows.
thanks for sharing.

Lol.. I appreciate the nomination :) I live on the river with a boat launch of our own so access isn't a problem for me... I don't know if the pay launches allow access or not. Never really thought of that before... but ya I use my launch

Thanks, I appreciate you liking the pic I took. It's easy when you've got someone who just wants to "pose" a pic for themselves to share with buds.
