Will you be with Mike Lazarus by chance? I will find out conditions for that area very soon!

be careful with the south winds and the bath launch.

to get to the reach you have to cross the "gap" (where the island opens into open water before the reach begins).

it can get rough if the winds turn out to be 50k like they are calling for....

pryners could be a better option.

Just stopped by the Bath launch on my way home from work.
GOOD TO GO!!!!
Absolutely no snow or ice on the launch whatsoever.
I would probably still take some salt just in case but I doubt you will need it.
Be carful crossing the gap if there is a good south wind and good luck with the fishing.
Tight Lines,

FISH HUNTER

you might want to check out the ferry launch. the ramp is free of ice and snow but you might need to break some ice along the shore to get the boat in but it is clear outside the break wall. the bay is open up to the cement plant but some ice still floating. The ice seems to be pushed along the shores whatever way the wind is blowing but ramp might be usable. just incase you are interesed.

It is highly probable my dad and I are going tomorrow - Thursday Jan 10. The winds are certainly favourable as they will be light. Unfortunately, the cold front may turn the fish off, if there are even fish to be caught. But what the heck - a long awaited "last chance"!

I have never launched at Bath and it is a long way east. I would be most inclined to try the familiar launch on the east side of the ferry if it's possible. So if anyone can look at it today and report here, that would be swell!

I have never used Prinyer's - is it OK for a regular front-wheel-drive mini-van?

Cheers,
Pete

P.S. Wow - over six thousand hits on this post. Dang.

Was out yesterday (Tuesday). Launched at Bath (Finkles) and it is fine, no need for shovels or salt. Winds were light so no problem getting up to ferry and even close to Esroc cement plant. Just have to navigate around some floating ice in spots. Went past the ferry launch, still looks iced in from what I could see from the water. Only problem on this day..... fish were not cooperating. Think many of them are up in the bays under the ice. Last year at this time Picton Bay was still open and we got lots on 3 different occasions.

What?! No fish?!

How many hours did you fish? How many rods/guys? Did you try everything - deep, shallow, colours, etc.? Did you mark any fish?

I believe someone else got out in the last week or two, and also got skunked. Superdad was it, I can't remember.

Thanks for any further info you can supply!

Cheers,
Pete

pete, the fishing was tough when i was up there, which was before christmas....

if you do get out, do it for FUN, not for numbers of fish.... :D

oh, and pete, i really wouldn't try pryners without 4wheel drive.

up until this year, i towed with a front wheel drive vehicle....and with it, in the BEST of conditions, i wouldn't try pryners....definitely not this time of the year.....

bath is a better launch. pryners is a better location winds/fish/water wise....

We fished from about 9am till 3pm, would have stayed to dark but rain clouds were on the way and with no fish to motivate, getting soaked would have added insult to injury. One other boat was out in the same area, we checked in with them a couple of times and no luck either. Fish seemed to be in the 15 to 25 foot depth in some spots, or 40+ in other spots, but no concentrations of fish. We had 4 lines out most of the time on boards, tried dipseys, line weights, lead core, no luck on anything. I have been out 4 times between Dec 8 and yesterday, the first two times (before Christmas) with good results, the last two with no luck at all.

Thanks, Sam. Looks like we'll be there tomorrow and launch at Glenora. We'll let you-all know how we did.

Morning
We also tried Tue and no luck. Few clusters of large fish deep but none shallow. Saw hal-markham. Tried deep and shallow -shallow was hard because all iced in with broken ice flows near the ferry on both shores.

Good luck Pete.
My boat is going to bed.

Who can get the fn. Finkler dock fixed so humans less than 8 ft and boats with 6 ft high sides can get out/in there and stay dry/no broken bones???

thks
