Hey Guys..

Here's the link to our first hardwater report of the year.

http://g2angling.com/en/blogs/

We were able to find some safe ice on the Bay and took FULL advantage of it (2 1/4 -2 3/4 inches HARD BLACK ice).

Enjoy!!!

Even though we were out on the ice yesterday, we will not be booking any client trips for at least another few weeks. You can never be too safe when it comes to ice, so rest assured we will not be taking clients out until we KNOW for a fact the ice is safe enough!

The way I look at it is these are guys that are on the ice alot. I know Grant and if he thought he put himself in danger he wouldnt have tried it. Who is anyone else to tell these guys they cant post that they did it and caught fish? If you are that stupid to try it on your own because you saw the post then let Darwinism kick in. We are grown men, I dont jump off bridges because other guys do. Stop crying, if you want to go out then go, if you are mad because someone else had the nads to do it and posted about it then get over it. Whats next , are people going to lose respect for those who were able to fish bigger waves while trolling. I will go fish 5 fters in my tin can and post about it. Is there a difference? Common sense, they felt safe, they fished, they caught fish. NO ONE said get out there! I mean really people

For anyone who took the time to read the blog it says and I qoute

Outside of the excellent fishing there is a much more important matter that needs your attention!

Safe ice for US, may not be safe ice for YOU. It is a personal preference all based on comfortabilityon the ice. Although we had no issues getting out to our location, as there was no snow on the ice, there were still several noticable areas that were certainly unsafe. I advise anyone that is planning to go out in the near future to exercise EXTREME caution whether you are familiar with the area or not.

Wow! That's pretty harsh.
Perhaps you should read the post prior to commenting. We did not "brag" nor did we advocate anyone going out there if they were unfamiliar with their surroundings. 2.5 to 3 inches of hard black ice is much safer than 5-6 inches of soft white ice that A LOT of us fish on in February.

As far as losing respect for us, you are entitled to your opinion. I, just like everyone else, am allowed to share my recreational fishing experiences in this communal setting.

Just to reiterate for my friend that wasn't paying attention... Exercise extreme caution when venturing out on the ice. Safe ice for ME may not be safe ice for YOU.

Thanks!

Do you watch Ice Road Truckers ?

Now those guys are nuts.

I have been fishing the hard water of Quinte for over 40 years and usually one of the first dudes on the ice. Have never gone thru, yet. Although I have had friends go thru the ice when I have not been around for advice.
Ask Fisherboy, I usually test the ice on West Lake first.

History, my Dad was a stable master in the lumber camps far up in the north.
The rule of thumb was 3 inches of black ice was adequate to hold a team of horse to start logging. I knew a guy that was a heavy hauler for Brockelsby Transport. They hauled across the ice into the Quebec Hydro projects in northern part of the province. They hauled 100 ton pay loads, when they got 8 inches of black ice. Never lost a load in the 8 years that he worked for them.

The key here is local knowledge. Understanding and knowing the currents in the Bay and how they affect ice formation & deterioration.

These guys did not take out any clients & stated that they would not until later in the season.

Be safe out there.
Al
