Have you tried going to wacky rig usually thats what I do when there just tapping and it seems to work!!! Im jealous you have giant bass there!!!!

down size your bait,and hook. your fishing a summer set up. 2 inch power bait, works well, but go smaller not bigger if any thing. your fishing for inactive fish, compared to active fish.
i assume, your fishing erie or newyork state ? alot of lakes around here dont have a live release season, newyork state now has a live release season, just started end of 09. here bass has been closed since end of november. sounds like fun.
