The 401 is slow driving top speed 60kms. East and west form oshawa to colborne big apple. Cars are using just 1 lane. 3 to 4 inches of snow on road but ploughs are out.BE CAREFUL.

Not only is the 401 bad (3 3/4 hours from Huffs to pickering) but I got lost out on Quinte. I dragged almost a 70 pounds around for an hour and I could not see land from the snow( I packed up to late). I thought we were only going to get a few flurries. I tell ya that is a scary thing not being able to see where you are going and wondering if you are walking in the wrong direction. I was just about to use my phone to call for help when I remembered I brought my Garmin nuvi, as i was going to use it to get a Lat/Long if I found a hot spot. It got me to my car and just barely as the batteries were about ready to die.
Thank you Garmin!

Good move with the GPS.

I always carry the GPS in the sonar bag, with extra batteries & also a compass. Been fishing Quinte for almost 40 years & have been in a few white outs. I always punch in a waypoint when leaving the shore line.
Scary feeling isn't it.

Glad you got in safe.

Al

It really is amazing isnt it, its only happened to me once and it was after a morning fish but in mid afternoon so white you sould not see shore in any direction, had snowed for hours so no old trail to follow . lucky I just sat and fished til I could get a direction of shore . I cant imagin it at night ....... this is just something people cant imagin unless they have had it happen to them .

A GPS is good and works wonders, back it up with a compass and you will not get into trouble, Compass does not freeze and the battery does not crap out on you.
