I had the chance to try one a couple times earlier this year and was really impressed. I especially like the lcd depth readout.
Picking mine up Saturday morning, can't wait.

Hi guys,

Since I'm very new to ice fishing electronics, would the Humminbird Ice 45 be considered easy to use? I want to buy a unit, but I need one that doesn't require me to be a rocket scientist.

Thanks.

Mike

my best friend and I have fished for a month and a half this season with no electronics.....five fish total(and we've fished some great spots!!!!) I got a phone call this Monday morning from my pal @ Canadian Tire, bit the bullet and spent $480 on the ice35.........as of Thursday afternoon.....he's caught 7 this week!!!! Needless to say the wife tells me she's gonna buy me the ice55 for my birthday. Don't know if I can wait till next year though...:-( lol

Did he spend $480 on the 35 or 45? I originally bought a 35 last season for 350 plus tax.... I returned it after one week for the 45 and get much better readings due to the stronger signal strength. When I got the 35 at CT in kingston the guy made it sound like it was all I needed and sold me a unit missing parts that his friend apparently returned in exchange for a 55. Plus the backlit LCD screen is a major plus for night fishing.

I ordered online from radioworld.ca an Ice55 2 weeks ago for 450. Hardly read instruction and had it figured out within 10min of use. Love it, wouldn't be without it. The only problem is it works so good that when you can't mark fish because there aren't any it makes for a long afternoon. And all you want to do is go drill somewhere else.
