Would like to give the brown trout a try this year.I have never fished them and am totally unfamilliar with the area on lake ontario where they are fished.IS there anyone out there that guides for browns on the ontario side.ANY info on boat launches and areas to target would be appreciated would prefer to go out with someone familiar with the fishery and the water and would have a seat for this person in my boat.Looking forward to viewing the replies

THANKS GARRY

I have guided anglers in the past during the run along the Sand Banks in the spring - Mid to Late April.
You can get into some good numbers, but on average the browns do not get very big on the Canadian side of Eastern Lake Ontario.

The NY side and down towards Niagara produces some real nice Brown Trout during the spring.

The launch ramp at Wellington has a snow bank over the last eight feet between the pavement and the water - might be a few days before it's open.

The west wind today (pushing 5 - 6 foot waves) had blown a mile of ice between the open water and Athol Bay - gonna be a bit of a wait.

Stay Tuned

you can probably put in on the beach side in wellington, might need a little shoveling but not much

There was more snow on the beach side ramp than the one by LCBO. It will take some time to melt and with the temps for the next week - not looking good.

I have seen wellington go from no ice/clear sailing to totally filled with ice chunkc in less than an hour all depends on wind direction if there is a north wind in the morning it will push the ice out into the lake where you cant even see it or know its out there then a wind shift from the west or south west its blown right back in so thick you could walk on it and stratches for 300 yards out..... residents know this and see it all the time the shore ice is all along there and moves with the winds

grizz, you sure know a lot about our canadian geography.

blowing/floating ice on lake ontario can be a major issue in the months of january and february...

if your going to play on the big pond during those months, you have to prepare to break through ice....cause it'll hit you when you least expect it....

The river was really high(surprise surprise) & all the ice is gone.
No one fishing today but I imagine there will be when water clears up a little.

My local harbour (hamilton) just opened up in the last few days. I spent a few hours in the rain yesterday trying my luck for browns off the pier....

Just got back from Wellington. Checked out the launches. You can get a boat in on both, BUT there is a 1/4 mile of very thick drift ice off shore.

Need a north wind to clear that out.
