Hey Guys, just wondering, since speed is soooooo important when trolling these lunkers. Has anyone ever tried drift bag/s behind the boat? I like most people, had a "kicker" to troll with but I wasn't satisfied with it and have yet to replace it. I started using the drift bags trolling for trout last year and it made a huge difference, great success.
Just curious if anyone's tried them in the bay? Thanks.....Fish On'.....

I dont have a kicker on my boat and my engine can't quite troll down slow enough. I run a drift sock off the bow eye and it helps alot. I can now troll at that 1.5-2.0mph speed. Once dark hits I switch over to the electric motor. Hope this helps.
P.S> i suggest if you do use a drift sock attach to the bow eye. I have found if you run it off the back or side it makes for difficult boat control.

Hey Dan, thanks for the tips! I'll try the bag off the front. Also keeps it clear for your line. I also have a pair which may be too much but I figure it might be better for control so the boat isn't pulling one way or the other when off the back. ...Fish On'

F.Y.I. I run 2 large drift socks one each side great control and slower speed down to 1mph while trolling with bass boat with large motor if running planner boards. If not equiped with planner boards use as long as line as possible and zig-zag while trolling(helps reduce spooking them).Dean Thompson

Hey Bassman, thanks for the info. Just seemed logical to try them here too. Glad to see they work for someone. My 4 stroke 25 is just too quick for trolling. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for a few more weeks....Fish On'.....

I am running a Lund 1675 with a 90 four stroke Yamaha. I put the trolling plate behind the motor, and dropped my trolling speed from 3.8 km to 2.1 when using the 90. The drift sock then out the stern drops me to 0.8. My speeds were taken off the GPS. Good Luck

Hey Steve, thanks for the info. With a little luck I'll be upgrading to a larger outfit next season. Right now I have a 15'10" Legend with a 25 4-stroke. It's great for the fishing I do on the Ottawa river and at Quinte actually but, the kids want more speed for skiing, tubing etc so I figure it's a good way to get bigger for Quinte. Nice to see that with you running a 90 horse that the socks slow you that much still. I'm trying to avoid the expenditure of a kicker. .......Fish On'.
