We too witnessed some large fish being cleaned at the launch. Do they not taste like a rubber boot? I cannot understand the logic. Oh well, on with the story.
Reading 50 degrees at 4:00 pm leaving the launch in Picton. Yeah, 50 degrees. There was just a little wind when departing the harbour however, the wind picked up was coming from the west. A sweater only on November 23. What's up with that?
Trolled the pumphouse to Merlands a couple of times, then tried the north shore to the cement plant and got skunked. Tried casting near the weed lines with everything in the tackle box. Called it a night at 10:15 pm and headed toward the launch.
At the launch I suggested to my fishing partner (who got skunked his first time out to the BOQ) to take a couple of casts of the vacant pier while I secured the boat for the trip home and put everything away. I kid you not, second cast he yells at me to grab the net. Surely after being skunked for 6 plus hours I thought he was pulling my leg. I took the net down and he caught his first BOQ walleye. The 7.8 lb'er was caught on the HJ12 Firetiger.
I quit putting the boat away and took a couple of casts of my own. I casted for a hour and still caught zippo. However my fishing buddy thought he would try off the docks on the other side of the launch in the shallow water. 5 minutes in he caught a 4.1 lb'er casting toward shore. Again, caught on the HJ12 but this time clown pattern.
Needless to say the thought of work at 5:00am after a 1.5 hour drive home had the best of me and we left for home shorthly thereafter. See you again in a couple of weeks.
