Bass on sunny hot days

Hey guys,

I had a rough time chasing the bass this wknd. It was really slow where I was. On days when its stinkin hot and sunny and Im not catchin much I usually attribute it to the weather.....or maybe im just a lousy angler haha.

Ive tried slowin down my presentations and used soft plastics.....but still dont have much luck.

But has anyone got any advice for bass fishin for those sunny hot summer days? Especially in heavy weedy areas

I found the bass very cooperative this weekend... Perhaps you were just fishing the wrong spots. We actually quit fishing after about an hour each day as we had caught well over 20 bass in that time frame. Most people I talked with were having similar success as well. One thing I noticed is that the bass had really schooled up so searching them out was important. We would still pick of the odd bass in the thick of the weeds, however, the schools of bass were located along weed edges and other structure such as shoals and drop-offs. If you are looking for numbers find the schools by casting crank baits along weed-edges and other structures. We picked up some bigger bass fishing weed pockets using a wacky rigged worm (pink). Just some ideas....

Concentrate your efforts on the shady side of the weedbeds. On offshore beds the northern side of the weedbed will have more shade and cooler temps. Fishing an inside weedline on a south shore can be very productive as the trees on shore can create a shady spot that reaches out to the weed edge.

I like to start by burning a wakebait or 1/4oz spinnerbait along the edges of the weedbed looking for active fish. Then pitch plastics along the weed edge looking for fish at the base of the weeds. Then I will fish over the top of the weedbed with the wake bait if the weeds don't reach the top, a live target or yum frog if they do. Fish that blow up at the frog but don't get hooked are pitched back to with a jig&trailer or wacky rigged worm depending on how dense the weeds are.

If you don't find them in the weeds try deeper structure with cranks or carolina rigs. Good Luck.

Similar story for me this weekend. Had my boat sitting in 10-12 fow and casting into the edges of the weeds. They did seem to be schooled too where I was. All were caught on dropshot, mostly with slammers, but a few on wacky rig with pink worm. (Trigger X)

i find its all about having confindance in what your doing, and having the right equipment.
my tournament stats show a mixed bag of results this year. i have a win, and days like sunday were your equipment and the bite let you down. finished 21 out of 26 boats. had my line problems not happened and the fish i got to the side of the boat made it into the boat, i would of finished around 14th. still out of the money.. but either way.. what you have confindence in will allways catch you fish.. i lack confindence in flipping so i dont flip.. i love to burning cranks, and twitching jerk baits. so thats what i do, i allways catch fish.. if you tell me what kind style of fisherman you are i can lead you in the right direction or some one else can.. struggling to get fish into the boat made me make bad dission, i ran accross the lake to water i had never fished, looking for fish, all i found was rock bass...
i do every thing, i trow the jigs alot, find i lack confindence in it. so i dont do it on tournament days. i find the key is, fishing is all about learning, i learn some thing new every time i am out, i wouldnt consider my self a good fisherman, i do allright, but i still have stuff to learn, i think these guys that find one thing and dont open up to other things, will never become a great fisherman, because a great fisherman can catch fish under all conditions.. just a ramble. lol

I always work the three F's Find , Focus , Finese - Use cranks , spinner baits and top water to find schools or weed edges Focus on them with tubes ,wacky rigs and worms and when you have them dialed in switch to drop shot , or flukes and maybe even some gulp minnows on light line

get a flippin stik and some heavy line, a 1-1.5oz weight and find the heaviest cover you can. hot days fish do one of 2 things go deep or go into thickest cover around.

I'm no expert by any means but what I have found is tight schools as well. I have been jumping around and hitting alot of spots until i cross paths with a school. When you hit a school you will know it so on the flip side if they arent where you keep jumping around
