There is a certain degree of skill involved in angling but there is also some luck to go with it.
The Port Whitby Sport Anglers Assoc. hold 3, 1 day mini tournaments each summer. They raise money that helped to support the Metro East Anglers to operate Ringwood hatchery the last 5 years. Ringwood is closing but the monies will still go into the Lake Ontario fishery.
Going into the last tournament, my brother Don was 4 pounds behind Bruce Burt (Team No-reel-worries). I missed the 1st tourney this year. We won the 3 fish box in the 2nd one. My objective was to better Bruce by 4 pounds and get Don's name on the overall championship throphy. In preperation friday night I spent about 2 hours sharping hooks and retying some of my hotest salmon rigs wirh new line. Due to uncontrollable circunstances I only got about 1 hours sleep before i left for Whitby at 3:30 am.
Really started the day off great. Got a text from 1 team member that he wasn't coming. Don phoned the other and he had slept in. So we were handicapped with a 3/4 hour late start.
We were up against some great compeitors.
Team Hotrods - Matt Santoro is leading the Great Ontario Salmon Derbt with a 37.44 pound king.
Team No-Reel-Worries
Also Team Marlin Seat, Team Northshore and Team pandamodium. Team Mason.
We had 7 or 8 bites but only 3 mature bites, & we stuck all 3.
A 29.76, a 26.66 & a 22.04 enouhg to win the 3 fish box calcutta for the day.
The 29.76 took the big fish of the day, & the 26.66 was 3rd biggest.
Matt snuck this 29.58 in for the 2nd place king.
Glenn Anderson just missed 3rd with this beauty.
Well we got Don's name on the overall championship trophy & won a Scotty downridder plus some cash.
Also he won the trophy and more cash for the biggest fish of the 3 tournaments.
All in al it was a good day.
The team with $2500 cash and a new Scotty downrigger.
