we've waited all week for today. Blue Skies, low wind and we know the fish are there. Al, Brian (muskiewannabie) Dave (dave-at-sunrise) and myself head out to the promised land.
Leave the harbour around 6:30 and start to setup shortly after 7.
we're the first ones out, water temp is around 58-60 , we're fishing 40 ft of water and all is right with the world except we're not marking anything, notta, zilch, zero, blank. we round the west corner and I watch a rod whip back and then nothing, but I decide to check it just in case, nope must have been bottom, no just a sec, yup fish on and end up landing a nice 11lber on a 900 reef runner out on three colours of core, yes I was fishing very deep.
after a few pics, it's returned. we continue marking a few fish but it's evident they've moved on and now we're on the search. Maybe a hour later another hit but it's a knockoff before we can get it to the boat. hours go by and finally another hit, Brian brings in the most golden coloured eye I have ever seen, it is flouresant gold everywhere, even the belly was solid gold.
This one is kept, around 8lbs, wasn't going to make it so it's staying with us.
The rest of the day we are zero'd out, marks are few and far between. However we did bide our time with some smoked salmon with cheese and crackers, roast beef sandwiches. And tons of laughter and good times. Not the best day for numbers, but at least came away with some action.
Gentlemen it was a pleasure to fish with you guys today and nice to have made a couple of new friends. I look forward to the next time.
Thinking the Bonnet may be near it's end, BOQ here we come!
