I grew up in Hamilton, but never caught onto the largemouths in the harbour. I remember a few pictures in the local fishing shops of some awesome looking fish. I would love to give it a shot sometime. I live in Whitby these days but am self-unemployed, and weekdays are always good. I'd love to get out with you sometime, Steve. Where in the harbour do the largies hang out? Tires by LaSalle Park? Lily pads over towards Valley Inn bridge? I hear there are smallies over by the steel mills, too.
I also fished the Caledonia dam a few times. I remember catching walleyes in the fall by starting on the north shore, wading across to the little island, then wading upstream towards the dam. I seem to remember some sort of place you could stand on the downstream side of the dam, and cast upstream towards the falls. I think I used a jig and minnow, but can't recall. How do you fish 'em these days?
