What would be the best leader when running lead core? And what knot would you suggest for joining the two. From what I have seen the Willis knot seems to be popular when going to mono. Any help would be appreciated, I haven't run lead core before.

I run 20lb flouro leaders on my cores, only because I use em for salmon as well. On my strictly walleye rods I run 15lb. I use the double willis knot for all my core connections.

Most of us that have been using cores for a long time do not use glue. The chemicals in the glue reacts with the mono. Resently I have gone to the double uni is I am using a rod with big guides.

i have glued them together for an awful long time ,never had the line slip, just has to be clean and dry when you do it,then there is no knot to bang around through the rod guides and the line guide on the reel

I pull the sheath of the lead core back and tie a loose overhand knot in the core sheathing then I pass the floro up inside the sheathing then push the overhand knot over the floro and tighten down never had one slip
I run 10lbs quality floro for walleye and 15lbs and 20lbs for salmon

Pull the sheath back snap 3" of lead off pull the sheath back I like th Albright knot nice through the guides works with all line braid or mono TIE to the sheath that's why it's there lead is to make it sink.

our (thks del,don) best so far is;
pull covering back and cut off 4-5 inch of lead
sheath back and make two large loop half hitches and move down the leadline (past the end of lead inside.
fish line in all the way to lead inside (some leadcore makes wont fish thru-cortland is good).
slide closest rolling half hitch to 1/4 to 1/2inch fm end of sheath. pull tight.
slide second half hitch to 1/4 to 1/2 from where lead end. make sure your line is past this knot.
some put crazy glue to stop the end from fraying -i dont bother.
also good to splice 2 sections of 3 or 3 sections 2 with flor 12-15# at 3-4 ft section between. You can then cut off 2 section or 3 respectively to quickly get a 4 or 3 lead. Same to tie back on easily as flor is on each end. Salmon at 30+ didnt break joint, passes easily thru guides.
Works for braid backing, may want 3 knots or crazy glue 2 knots.
