Well me and my friend managed to succesfully secure a boat from Kevin at Merland Park and make it out on the water.

Got on the water around 8am and headed straight to the Glenora Ferry. Started trolling just before the green buoy east of the Ferry with Manns 20s - Dr. Death, Firetiger and Wonderbread. After 5 mins first fish was hooked and was being faught, then we hooked a second. Successfully landed both, 2 big females one just over 30" and the other around 27" if my memory serves me correct. Both returned safe and sound.
Since it was rather windy we continued the drift and caught two more both around the 30" mark again. 1 female was kept and the other returned.

My friend could not believe what he was seeing and catching as it was his first time out walleye fishing. Had to tell him that many people fish a lifetime to catch walleye like these.

Continued to troll and dirft around the Ferry area with not much luck till mid-afternoon. We were marking tons of fish. There were a few other people on the water but not as many as I expected. Looks like we were the only ones catching fish. It got really windy with chinook like gusts. The wind suddenly died in the late afternoon. Then the fishing turned on again. Caught and release several other 'eyes all on the Manns 20s again. I don't remember all exact sizes but they were all around the 30" mark.

By end of of the day my friend took 1 female, and I took a 27" male and an 18.6" male.

It was a great way to start off the New Year and looking forward to hardwater season.

I would like to say thanks to Kevin and his wife at Merland Park. They've got a great facility and are truely great people. If you're ever looking for a place to stay or to rent give them a call.

Here's the link to the pictures.

Ha! Yet another person "spoiled for life"! How can any other walleye fishing possibly compare?!

Great day. Congrats! Lucky you! Been having fun caving.

Just looked at the weather forecast - ARG. Looks like it's getting cold, eh?

All you wankers sitting at home should be out fishing today!

At least I have an "excuse" going caving.

Dang. Gotta get me some o' them Mann's Stretch 20's. I looked in the Wal-Fart down here, but no go. Think I'll make a mail order. Anyone interested in joining me? I can pick 'em up next month on my next caving trip, and bring 'em back across the border gratis of shipping and brokerage fees.

gman. Congrats on a fine day of open water walleye fishing in January?!!!!!. I was out as well. I believe everyone was catching fish. We went 15 for 15 with my personal best, 15lbs 33"x20". Top 5- 15, 13, 12.5, 12.3 & 12. Jan 1, 2004-15 for 16, largest 12lbs. Dec 27, 2003-16 for 16 with my fishing partners personal best 13.5 lbs 31.5"x 19.75". Dec 17. 2003-14 for 14, largest 11.5lbs. Dec 13, 2003-15 for 18 largest 13.5lbs. All fish over 10lbs were released successfully!!!!! Five between 26" to 27" didn't make it, either gilled or bends. Out of 75 fish boated and 2500kms on the road, not a bad ratio!!! I would like to wish everyone that posts on this site a very happy new year as well as a big thank you for converting a jigger into a troller, great info! Can't wait for spring!!!!!!!

We were using the Manns 20s, Dr, Death, Firetiger, Watermelon and Wonder Bread. I would have to say we were down anywhere from 20-35 ft. As it was rather windy we would troll and pop into neutral every now and again and just drift with the wind and chop. We trolled/drfited the whole area around the ferry. Not much success though east of the ferry.
We tried a planner board for about half hour then decided to scrap it.

Yeah, that kind of stuff does happen from time to time. I was acutally thinking of staying over and fishing Sunday, however my buddy had to be home as we was afraid of his wife. To be honest I think he missed her as kept checking his cell phone to see if she had left him any messages.
