Hey All,

I usually see quite a few people ice fishing across the bay from Belleville. I think it is near Cow Island (straight across from the Belleville Hospital), but am not positive if that is the name of the island.

Anyhow, I guessing that they must be catching as there is usually someone set up there. My question is "what is the best way to walk there?" Do they go across from Belleville, or is there a parking area near Rossmore that is better?

Any tips for fishing that area would be great as well. It is time my son caught his first fish through the ice. :)

Thanks a bunch,

Blute

That area is called peats point. there is a boat ramp lane going down to the ice from behind cow island that folks walk out from The problem there is parking, as its just a small lane going down to the ice. Best to pull in drop off your gear and park your vehicle down the road and not in the lane.

If your referring to Cow island, its out across from the government docks (they used to be called) near the end of george street in belleville. You can walk off there straight across to cow island. peats pt is to the left quite a ways back. Might want to be careful out from Belleville area as there is some current.

Blute if you plan on fishing cow island take Dan's advice. A week ago the bay was open almost to cow with the mild temps. I would not cross from George to cow without 911 on speed dial yet. Play it safe bud. K.M.B.F.
