So this afternoon, a friend and I were hiking out to a favorite place (with good ice) when I see a pop up flying across the lake. The thing went a good distance before closing itself and resting on the ice. As we got a bit closer we noticed the there was a spot on the ice with a chair, rods in the rod holder, a small heater and radio were set up and you could see the pop up had been set there and left. I'm not sure if anyone on the board does this but I assumed the idea of a pop up was "easy up/easy down", however this guy left his site totally set up.
I did chase the tent down and dragged it back to his spot assuming that over time the wind either ripped the fabric or the anchors popped out of the ice, however to my amazement I found all the anchors in the bag, perfectly wrapped up as if they were never opened, further more I noticed a small pile of snow around the outline of the hut. This thing wasn't even tied down???
So dispite the legal element at play, I would encourage you to not use a Canadian tire pop up as a permanent hut, or if you are going to do so, please use the included anchors.
Thought it was pretty funny, maybe even a redneck joke in there, but more like you know you are getting close to hwy 7 when ...
