Just came back from Deseronto from picking up cheap smokes. I wasn't fishing but stopped by the public launch by the Skyway Bridge (I think it was Ferry Lane?). In any case, looks like that part of the BOQ is totally iced over. Walked out about 50 feet and seemed to be VERY thick. Mind you, as I say I didn't go out too far as I was only in jeans and a leather coat so I don't know how thick it is further out in the bay. Didn't see any people or huts by the bridge. In any case, looks like it's time to start drillin'! Good luck and be safe.

Hey big-O,

Have you not tried the little plastic clip-on planer boards? They're maybe six or eight inches long by three inches with a little plastic flag on top, and you clip it directly to your fishing line, not a separate planer board line.

I use the "Off Shore" brand which you see here in this photo I lifted. They come in "left" and "right" so you can run one off each side of your boat. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! You no longer have to deal with the clusterfrig of your big honkin' planer boards.

Since Neil put me and and my dad onto these Off Shore Side Planers a few years ago, my big honkin' wood planer boards have been gathering dust in the garage! Bloody useless, those things.

You can click here to read about how to fish for walleyes using Off Shore Side Planer.

You can click here to visit Off Shore's Planer Board website page!

In the article linked above, there is a pretty good link describing the Off Shore Snap Weight system, which you can see pictured below. I might wanna add some of these things to my U.S. order, cuz I don't have the snap weight system yet. Can you buy it in Canada?

Cheers,

Pete

PTP

you can pick up the snap weights and planer boards from LeB's. You may want to phone ahead to see if they're in stock. The planer boards were out of stock REALLY FAST probably due to all the posting about them in November. Not sure how many of the snap weights they sold but they might be out of stock too.

Keep us informed about the ice conditions in Deseronto. After this weekend they should be good enough for ice huts.

If you get any more information please keep us posted.

Bye for now,

Fisherman
