Im in the market for a new fishing net, one that wont tangle up the lures, I have been reading up on the new Frabill conservation and stowaway models, any suggestions ? have you tried these nets or is there a better solution you can offer.

I would caution about the Frabill net that slides into the pole, the net is cotton and is PRONE to hooking the hooks. We are using one and have removed all hooks, save for the rear in order to eliminate the troubles we have had of the hooks getting caught and REALLY caught in the net.

FYI from our personal experience.

Any non tangle net willl fill the bill.

Got a Frabill Red Leaf from Canadian Tire a couple weeks ago. Works great for 10+ lb Lakers. Has an extension handle that is really slick and is really well coated so minimal hooking in the net. Think it was 59.99.

I have all models of Frabill nets available in the store to see. If you want to compare. stay away from the soft versions....they do mess up with hooks. I have the rubberized nets and power stow styles as well.

For what it is worth,I bought a frabill net from Stacy at pro tackle last fall, big bakery for those Quinte eyes ;) anyway I had no issues with hooks... Even if a hook got buried, it popped out with ease.

I bought a large Lucky Strike basket net at BPS with some xmas gift certificates this winter for salmon that has a rubberized mesh. I have used it on a few outings so far this spring and have to say I am impressed. The basket is a tad bit shallow for my liking as far as a tyee goes but it would be more than enough for a big fall eye. Not sure of the model but it had a yellow handle and was under $50 which I think is really fair price. Have only had 1 hook get stuck in it so far and it came out no problem.

I'm using a walleye pen net from beckman and have been very happy with it.

Nice deep bag with a flat bottom and hook proof bag.
Whichever brand you decide the hook proof bag is the only way to go.
I'd also say spend the money on a good net and you'll never regret it no matter which brand you choose.

Nothing can beat a rubber net, fish never get spun up in them and never a hook problem. Big fish are the only issue, but walleye bass and other fish up to 10lbs I first tried one 15 years ago because with laker slot sizes up north the other nets were a nightmare because lakers are so squarely they twisted up so bad. Used the rubber once and never looked back. I do have a big one like the other guys were talking about though, for out on the big lake and pike and Muskie

Rubber all the way. Been a few years for me and ZERO issues. Never find it frozen to the floor of my boat when I'm fishing in the fall either!!

I've been using a rubber net for 10+ years, and they are great. Never an issue. I like the looks of the Lucky Strike Basket net though.

Beckman makes a great net, pricey but worth it. I have the 6+3 extension.

Careful with rubber nets...they will freeze and crack in the cold...I know this from personal experience.

They are also "tip heavy" as well...

One disadvantage of rubber nets is wieght. One habding my rubber net will one day be beyond my ability as I get older.
Only other problem I ever had was a 20+ pike that went nose first and broke through the bottom and away.

Didn't think I'd ever hear a fisherman complain a net is too heavy!!! Different story when there is a fish in it I guess. On the bright side, it'll give you bigger arms for fighting them Hawgs!!
All kidding aside, the rubber nets are a bit heavy. Think I might switch to Lucky Strike Basket Net as mentioned before.

My rubber net has been through everything, even a 20+ muskie and its about 15 yrs old. Never once had an issue, I have had more proplems other nets and not once with a rubber. I thought the rubber would be heavy too but dont have a complant at all, never had it break and I start fishing in march and dont end until freeze up. Like anything if you look after your stuff it will always work, and there are flukes too. If you are fishing to keep everything and dont care about the fish getting all tangled in net or like digging hooks out of strings dont bother. I have a great net for fishing lake O and even when we know we are realeasing a fish if we can we use the rubber if we think the fish will fit. Works great at side of boat for rehab too.
Everyone has there favorites, but we all agree that the best net is the one you have when you need it, and second is actually needing to use it.
