Is it worth it to pay the extra for Navionics Platinum vs. Premium for the Canada chip?

Wormdrowner,

If you are just using it for contour lines and depth soundings, the level of detail between the Navionics Hot Maps Premium C6 chip and the Platinum C6 are equal. If your chartplotter supports the extra features such as 3D Views, Panoramic Lake Photo, Top-down Satellite Imagery, then the Platinum has these extra features.

Here is the Lake Listings for the Hot Maps Premium C6:

Here is the Lake Listings for the Hot Maps Platinum C6:

Start with this link and see which chips chartplotter supports first and then decide which features you are looking for.

For most anglers here on the Bay of Quinte and the Eastern basin of Lake Ontario I recommend the Hot Maps Premium C6 unless your chartplotter supports the additional features and you are looking for these. However the level of detail in the actual chart itself is identical.

Hope this helps,
Jeff

I have the platnium plus and on this chip you also get the fish n chips feature. Dont know if you get that with premium

Dan,

The Fish 'n Chip data is on both the Premium C6 and the Platinum C6. However, the Fish'n Chip chart was in meters and was not Shaded with colours for depth while both the Premium C6 and Platinum C6 are in feet and shaded.

They both also have the freshest data feature and you can get free updates for a year.

Slight correction here. Fish n Chip data is technically only in our Platinum+ charts, not on HotMaps. But for the Great Lakes 95% of the time the data is the same. Platinum+ and Gold cover the Great Lakes and Maritimes, while HotMaps covers inland lakes. There is some overlap, though.
