For all the years i have gone there I have never found any bargains.
All the shops try tyo get rid of all there old junk and low end gear. They have to make money because the booths cost so much. The only good thing is you get to see the new tackle and accessories. Bett off to go to LeBarons.

There is a small shoe in Kingston in Mar. It's free and a lot of manufacturers will be there. Also one in Ottawa

Just my opinion

Leon :D

I could nto agree more with Leon, I was a die hard regular of this show as well as others in the Toronto area and have not gone to the Spring Fishign show for the past couple of years. In my opinion it is a complete waste of money, there are almost no "deals"to be had on anything. I recall buying a lure I had a hard time finding, thought it was a great deal and then saw it 2% cheaper at Cdn. Tire a week later. As well there is very little new to be seen, I woudl suggest the Sportsman show as being far superior but even this has declined over the past few years bu tyou can still find a bargain or two and there seems to be more new stuff to keep you interested. Just my opinion but I would not waste gas money even if this show was free.

There is a tackle show/sale coming up in Trenton at the arena I believe. I read this in Friday's Trentonian. Admission is $1. Sorry I don't have a date but only read this while on the toilet!

The shows are more than just about getting deals. The shows are there to promote the fishing (and outdoors) and exhibit new products.

Be thankful that there are even shows like this. I know of a lot of tackle shops that do not go to these shows for the reason that they loose money (due to costs and theft as the security is not so good).

Many of these shops have local in store sales while the shows are going on.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Leon,

Would you have more details on the Kingston show or know where one might find out place & dates?

Thanks!

Mike

Is this the show(?) run by the Howe Bros?

I heard it was going to expand this year. Looking forward to going if possible.

The Kingston Fishing show will be held on march 13, 14/05 at Doffer's hall, same place as last year. Seee www.easternontariobassmasters.com for show details.

This year the Gananoque Muskies Canada Chapter will be adding a booth. Anyone interested in pursuing large St.Lawrence River Musky and joining this chapter and finding about more about their conservation efforts can ask presiding members.

Me and the Taylor Clan have gone the last 4 years,we take 2 cars about 7-8 of us.We call this our winter get away, then to Pickering to the Manderin chinese buffet for lunch. Not alot of good deals, but it's nice to see the new stuff. I find some lures about the same price and deals on low end rods and reels. But hey, gets me out house and a day with the guys (no women). Hope she's not looking over my shoulder.

The other great thing about the Fishing and Sportsman shows is that you get all the retailers together in one location. One stop shopping for all your Spring gear. Plus you get to see what is new! It is unfortunate that Toronto has both the fishing show and the Sportsman show because the Sportsman show used to be great, the Fishing show seems to be building momentum which has detracted from the Sportsman Show. One show with all the reatailers would be better!

You may get lucky if you go, ya never know...I've been fortunate to hit some show "on the spot" specials. Sometimes the retailers do it just to make a sale..

None the less, still good to see all the stuff in one area...That being said, won't see me there this year...

I went and thought it was good. I bought the new style inline planer board clips designed for braided lines (thanks Mike for the tip). WOW i love em no more line loops and very quick to set up.
Found one retailer with bins of Pradco baits for 5 bucks each. There were a hell of a lot of people there and all the manufacturers were on hand with the latest product offerings. Lowrance has some nice color sonar/GPS units out this year in the lower price brackets.

Looking forward to visiting the Toronto show in March and meeting some old friends and browsing thru the sale bins for those 'Treasures'
