We went out of Wicklow again yesterday. It was a bit rough for my boat but we stuck with it. After a slow start we got into some fish and ended up 9-10 with the largest being 22 and 24lbs including Kings / Bows and one I don't recognize. They were caught on a variety of lures but the Blueberry Muffins ruled the day. Got a couple on a green flasher / green fly combo and a couple on a bare MC Rocket (blueberry muffin colour as well) I think every rod moved too. It was a good mix of Dipsy's and Copper.

This guy was pretty pink on the sides. My guess is Pink Salmon but what do I know. I do know I've never caught one that looked like this.

with a bit of pink along the sides, this time of yr it might have been a coho... although coho usually has a black mouth but gums are lighter white color.. from the pic it looks like the gums are black...... ..

Cant see the tail, but by the pointed jaw, it looks like a pink. I have caught a few of these over the years in the Trent, but by fall they changed dramatically. Pointed jaw, black spots on the back and big spots on the tail = pink.

Its strange. I've caught quite a few bows but they never looked like this guy. Different body shape. He was really energetic. Quite a fighter for the size.

would tend to agree with you... long and lean steelhead like that could very easily be one of the orginal strain that were stocked in the wilmot creek back in the 1800's... we still catch some of them and that is more what they look like.. the newer stocking as a rule seem to be shorter and fatter....... but hell .. a fish is a fish and if it gave you a good fight or meal then that is what matters lol..i also believe but but not 100% sure , that some were stocked east of newcastle in the kingston area.. wayyyyyyy back...

Way to go Rtkman,

Great to see another report from you. You've had a great year out there.
