First of all I would like to thank Tim (Tylercurt) Sansom for being our observer in 3 of our 1 day style shootout events. Awesome dude and very dependable. Big thanks from all the Team members.
We left Wellington about 9 am on Thursday, hit our fishing grounds about 11:30 and proceeded to deploy 3 coppers, 2 divers and 3 rigger set ups. With the next hour at some point Big Gene yelled release the Kracken and the all hell broke loose. A 19 pound king and a 3 pound coho decided to tangle 5 of the 7 lines in our spread. After a good amount of time we had the mess straightened out. Friday we covered a big area to the west and boated a few fish but not what we were looking for.
Friday night I got a hot tip in what depth of water the active kings were in and an approximate location. We headed out Saturday morning and got to our depth. Marked a few fish and boated a small coho. Turned right and trolled east for 5 hours without another shot. We went into skinny water. Nothing there and then rolled back out deep and west. At 1 pm we doubled 1 mile west of where we turned east. Might have been a different story if we had of turned left the first time.
We finished 20th out of 48 teams with a 3 fish box. 18 teams did not weigh in. It was really a tough bite on Saturday. The Inaugural ATOMMIK Invitional was a fantastic event and Team Rockets had a blast in Oswego.
We left Oswego this morning at 6:15 and made it back to Wellington in just less than 4 hours.
Couple pics of the crossing.
The event ran without a hitch and I was impressed with the clock work timing of the event.
We'll be back.
Al
