This morning I caught a Largemouth with two Queen's Univerity tags on it (didn't know the fish around here had degrees). Does anyone know if I should contact, who and how about the size, weight and location of the fish ? I looked on the net didn't see much.

Nice lookin' bucket!
Contact Bruce Tuff, he's a Queens Prof and a biologist. He has the tag program and would really be interested in the particulars concerning this fish.

The fish was tagged on August 12th 2012 by Queens. They were on hand at the QFS tournament that day and tagged a number of the bass caught with the yellow tags. There should have been a contact # on the tag as well as a serial number, both tags are identical, they are interested in the location of the fish as well as weight. There is no way of knowing where the fish was caught initially but it was released out off the George st. ramp in the main channel. A few of these have been weighed in on subsequent QFS tournaments.

No there was no number to call, and the numbers were not identical. One was 0328 and the other was 0327.

Bruce Tufts, Queen's U Biology. That's him putting tags in a fish at our Deseronto event. Fish were tagged at three of our Quinte club events this year, including Quinte Bass Champs and the Canadian Bass Angler's Federation Cup. It would be great if you could let us know when and where it was tagged, where it was recaptured, and any other info. Please post it up if you can.

It is really cool to see that their work this summer with the tagging program is already starting to yield data! I hope that all the anglers cooperate and call in ! It is invaluable data!

Hi Yonder, I was just talking to Bruce Tufts. He was happy to hear of your catch and said it would be great if you could contact him with the tag numbers, general location the fish was caught and condition of the fish. His office number is 613-533-6143 (he said this number should be on the tag) or email him at tuftsb@queensu.ca
Thanks for sharing.

Just an FYI, he has heard back about 15 fish being caught so far.

Proof that live release works!
These fish were caught and tagged at a tournament which is proof again that there is a good mortality rate if handled right even under tournament conditions.
Hopefully Bruce or the person that caught this one , and others too, will post where these fish are caught, not to know "secret spots", but to show the travel patterns these fish take after release.
