The results of the IN-Fisherman Master Angler Program have been published:

http://www.in-fisherman.com/interactive/trophy/ma2003/

It is interesting to see the Largest Walleye in Region 5 in the Keep section is from the BoQ.

What I find strange is that in the Catch & Release section for Region 5 is a resounding absence of fish from the BoQ. Yet Region 4 (Canada) has over 4 dozen fish registered from Lake Seul.

Is that area promoting its fishing thru the Master Angler Awards?

Would it be an idea that the promoters of the Bay of Quinte might consider as a method of telling the world that BoQ is a walleye heaven? This might invigorate the tourist trade for those off periods( Oct & Nov).

Is is ethical to use a progam like the Master Angler Awards to promote your fishing?

It's interesting in that it appears to be great promotion for the "private" outfitters, or am I missing something?

I guess morally it doesn't seem ethical but, then again, what's wrong with a little self promotion. If indeed it's the outfitters submitting the results, which seems to be the case here.

It's as though the visitors are given a form when they depart to fill in and "leave at the desk", to be mailed in by the outfitters.

For so many "entries" to be coming from the one lake is a tad odd as I can't see that many people just doing it out of the blue. But I guess there's nothing wrong with it.

Is this what you meant :?:

Didn't mean to go on here......

Superdad, you tweeked my curiosity so I made a few searches, I love a good conspiracy. On one website that had a gathering of lodges for Lac Seul, there was 28 different outfitters. So if we take in consideration that there are more lodges that didn't sign up for this website, plus the camping grounds, trailer park etc etc, that's quite a few outfitters. That could also be one huge collective marketing budget.

Also, Infisherman is based in Minnesota and the target clients are, although spread nicely through out the continent, concentrated in that region, which is not far from Lac Seul.

Lastly, Lac Seul has a good one-two punch. It gets alot of coverage in the walleyes and musky circles.

As for ethics, it's wrong but you have to expect to be sold something in every page of almost every mainstream magazines. This I love, cut and pasted from In-Fisherman's home page

"is part of PRIMEDIA, Inc., America's leading producer of targeted media, headquartered in New York City."

I added the bold. Also interesting, on Primedia's home page, I counted 257 magazines or publications listed in their product guide. This would lead me to conclude that their policies on ethical journalism (not to mention their goals) are quite different from Al and Ron's.

They still do have the best writers in the industry though.

Sorry about the ramblings, it's late,my gf's sleeping so I can't watch TV and I have nothing better to do 8) 8) . Come on soft water.

I would personally like nothing better than to see a C & R reward program introduced to enhance both tourism and the BOQ fishing ethic. It is a duel edged item, that works. imo

Everywhere I have seen it, or anything similar, I have seen healthier ethics, tourism, etc. etc. It does not have to be fancy, to get and achieve results. It takes some select initiative, a mild amount of vision and with so many models out there already, would be very very easy to garner support for in BOQ.

Note, this is my opinion, and I like my privacy fishing perhaps more than most....BOQ deserves more...much more, in many areas.
Regards
Don Stokes
