When we were out fishing on the 28th, we noticed an unusally large numbers of dead sunfish floating. We saw a lot up in the flats on the east end of Hay Bay and there were sunfloating all over up to Bayview Resort.

We were thinking that they have passed on with their spawning period.

Any ideas?

You might want to inquire at Glenora MNR station. My first inclination was algae coupled with low oxygen. Thinking about the weather..... this seems unlikley given the amount of rain and cool conditions.

Perhaps some discease is the culprit? Does it seem like it is all from the same year class? Any markings to note?

I hope you are feeling better and getting lots of fishing time. My big outings will be coming up shortly with fishing for salmon at the mouth of the Columbia R. by the Pacific Ocean (should be interesting), followed by fishing Lake of the Woods and Nipigon Bay on Lake Superior.

lol....otherwise.... I just get to drive by nice looking places more often than not.
Take care & Tight Lines.

A few years ago we had alot of dead sunfish floating on the lake were we have our trailer. We were told that the fish go through cycles and that this was a common occurance. You might remember a few years ago, Lake Ontario had the same problem with one of the bait fish. It turns out that they came back stronger then ever.
