Hey guys,
We are the same price as always and still have not learned how to count. You get extras!
As for business...You really don't make much money on minnows. (at least we dont)
As a retailer we have to buy a permit every year for $148.60. Plus you will get inspected. We are also regulated to what we can sell, how many are in our procession and where we buy minnows from. (Absolutely no minnows trapped south of the 401 or from Lake Simco area). We can only buy minnows from a licensed trapper. Their costs are extremely high. They also have to purchase a yearly trapper license and buy their territory just to be able to trap and sell commercially. It is expensive for them as well. This obviously raises the prices.
I have spent over $2000 in minnow tanks over the years and you do get die offs.
To be honest...its a pain in the a$$ business. We do it for you guys.
Plus we will open at 5am every day once Quinte Ice fishing really starts
I stock one of the Largest ice fishing tackle selections from Toronto to Ottawa. Its a huge gamble. Look at the last 2 years, A lot of businesses lost money because of poor ice conditions.
If you can trap yourself...it will save you a few bucks. But is it worth the efforts? You are allowed up to 10 dozen in your procession.
I hope this helped guys understand what it takes. It is hard to keep prices down.
Thanks for the support, please stay safe out there on the ice.

Well said, I too am going thru all this headache to try and bring live minnows to our region (Orangeville) and we are ready to rock. It will be a learning curve but I am used to the Simcoe practice of $5 a scoop. The big problem with bait is the whole 'VHS' zones and the rules about buying and selling in these zones.
Stacey, any advice for a new guy on the block selling minnows? At 3+ hours away I am certainly not competition for ya
Thanks
Dan
