I was changing my lower end oil yesterday when I removed the lower screw some of the inner hole threads broke not allowing the screw back in. Dose not look like it could be re taped. Has anyone ever put a heli coil in that lower unit drain hole and dose it hold up. Hopefully I won't have to spend $1500.00 bucks on a new lower unit. The worst part about this I was just getting ready to come down to the bay for another shot before ice up. Like a knife to the heart I tell you. If anybody has any info on a fix for this It be would greatly appreciated. The motor is a 2010 Mercury 50Hp 4 stroke EFI.

Been there :( , had a 6hp that I tightened just a bit too much. Belleville Sport and Lawn put a Heli Coil in and used a older model drain screw that had a rubber gasket. Used it for another 15 years without a issue till I sold it. So yes it can be done successfully.
