Here is something that I have noticed on this site and it really bugs me .Seems everytime someone posts a pic of a fish they caught that someone jumps all over them about " did it get released" I don't eat fish and the odd time I catch a fish I put them back, I have absolutely no problem with any angler that legally catches a fish and wants to harvest it . They caught it and as long as it does not get wasted they can enjoy it. From what I see on this site there is no shortage of Walleye around here so why not just enjoy someone elses good fortune and leave it at that. I want to make it clear I am not pointing a finger at anyone in particular.....

I kind of noticed the same thing keeping a few to eat its up to the angler as long as not being wasted
I agree if someone keeps a big one for a trophy mount or to eat not really a big deal

I can see both points....
However with the technology we have now-a-days, a replica is EASILY made from measurements & pictures.
No need to kill the fish to have a mount made.

Now...I'm only referring to fish over 10lbs.
Anything under that you wanna keep for the table, by all means, but those big girls need to go back to help keep Quinte the world class fishery that it is.

replica's are toys.

i can provide a credit card number and buy dail mcnairs fish today.

if you catch a fish - a true trophy - nothing wrong with mounting it for your wall.

nothing at all.

half of the advanced tax mounts i've seen didn't even look like the fish.

they just use standard molds to make their fish from.

a nice skin mount, treated properly, will last decades.

and its your fish.

i have 3 replicas from advanced

a 45 inch northern. looks pretty much identical to my fish i caught. measurements are spot on.

a 55 inch muskie. definetely not identical to my fish, some differences if you really are picky but overall excellent mount.

15 inch perch. pretty much identical.

that being said my next mount will be a skin mount for the exact reasons steve mentions... it is EXACTLY my fish. the replicas do a good job but they arent perfect.

I was fishing one day when a guy got one about 14lbs, i said are you going to through it back, he said "No way! If i dont keep it it will be speared in the spring"so i think the odd 10+ fish is fine people all have there beliefs about keeping big fish but let me tell you if i am having a hard time getting fish or getting eaters i would keep a big one

Personally I would feel sick killing any walleye over 6 lbs. The argument about a replica not being a true trophy like a skin mount is very adolescent. I will never ever kill a trophy on purpose. Not all anglers are the same or share the same ethics. Its no different in any outdoor activity.

Some of us fish for sport and others fish for food and sport and some fish just for food. As long as they are obeying the law..the same laws that are put in place to protect our valuable fishery there shouldn't be a problem with keeping fish. We just got back from Quinte and had a great time catching monster walleye, we go there for the purpose of catching trophies if you want to meat hunt head down to Lake Erie for the eaters. This is just my opinion and I would not berate a fisherperson from keeping their limit or a meal of a 16 inch walleye or a 16 lbs walleye. Seeya on the water Fishhound
