Hey Guys,

Just got a new baitcaster and want to try it out one the ice. It is the Abu C3 4601. Does anyone else use them? I've always used spinning reels and would like to know what, if any, difference it makes. Can't wait for the ice!!!

Cheers! Ian

That's a good reel for ice fishing. Gloves don't seem to get in the way.

Laker's, etc, often make long runs, and have small mouths so if you don't let them run, the hook will just tear out.

Bait casters are a lot less bulkier on shorter rods with fewer guides and will have smoother retrieves than open faced/spinning reels. Choose whichever with good anti-lock ability. If using longer rods with more guides looking for bigger fish you might find a spinning reel more easily handled.
Just my experience so don't shoot me, lol.

Baitcasters let line flow straight off the spool. Less line twist than a spinning reel means less lure rotation when you stop jigging. I use both but still like the drag on spinning better.
