"Unheard of pressure" that's called icefishing.
When I drove across the Bay bridge and seen them out there icefishing it made me smile.
Back in the 70's and 80's that's exactly what you'd have seen when you drove across the old Bay bridge. If you fished in Belleville the boat ramp at the end of George street was the gateway to icefishing on the Bay. Every weekend there would be thousands of ice huts and fishermen dotting the bay all the way from the Murray canal to Picton. No doubt there was a lot more fishing going on than catching, that's why when you did get a fish it was a big deal.
It was a given if you fished in the pack then catching a fish was going to be as hard as winning the lottery. But that is what we did, some of us still do.
The secret to success back then was called "putting in your time".

I wish there were photos around from the Bay in the 70's and early eighties so he could see what pressure looked like ..... these photos give you an idea of what pressure looked like back then , but still do no justice ..... Image Image
