Hi Guys,

Happy New Year to you all...

My hummingbird Ice-45 has not been working great this year so I ordered the PPP-18i Ice Pack for my lowrance Elite 5 Fish finder and it looks pretty slick. On sale at Radio World for $170 and included the case, transducer, battery, charger, and a couple tackle trays.

Has anyone on the board tried this out? It has the normal chart view I use in the boat but also has an ice setting with a flasher display mode.

Cheers,

Jason

If you are use to a real flasher type unit you will be disappointed in the ice mode on your unit. I have both types and leave my Lowrance on chart mode. That is my opinion. Try it both ways.

Looking forward to giving it a try next weekend, thanks for the feedback. The chart view looked pretty interesting on a couple of you tube clips found.

The real reason for buying was so that my fiancé can use one of the flashers to keep her occupied... and by occupied I mean quiet :)

I have that pack set up with an Elite 4.
Works great, it just takes some time to dial it in.
The ice view works sometimes but most of the time I use the fresh water setting and adjust the sensitivity and colour line manually.
In certain conditions the ice view seems to lose a lot of detail

the PPP-18i Ice Pack for lowrance Elite 5 Fish finder is shown in the LeBaron catalogue for $134.94 with transducer, battery and charger. I have been considering one.

that's where I got mine, $149.
They make the kit up for you in Markham.
They ran out of the ice pack so they use a portable pack, same as the ice pack just with a suction boat mount transducer.
He takes that transducer and gives you an ice transducer.
The only difference is it has no float just a metal post for mounting to another ice sonar which is useless.
I just wrap the cord and let it hang free under the ice.
Could always make a float with a piece of pool noodle.

I too run the unit in the fresh water mode change the setting to manual and advanced then you can dial it in , I just with the upper and lower limits could be adjusted by the foot not the five or 10 intervals once it's dialed in its a great tool , I always run the sonar never the flasher , I like seeing the jig cadence and see when the fish come in and move up or away Image

I also have a Lowrance Elite 5 chartplotter/fish finder combo. I made it portable to go between my fishing boat and sailboat. So now it is also portable for ice fishing. I took an old hardcase tacklebox, screwed a piece of plywood to the bottom. Then mounted the fish finder to the plywood along side a 4-wheeler battery. there is enough room at the back for the transducer, sandwich and a beverage. Battery is a little overkill, but it lasts forever and I had it anyway.
I find myself watching the graph instead of the flasher. Nice to see the history.
