A buddy of mine just bought hummingbird ice 55 and its reads bottem in middle of the screen correct at 22 feet but would show bars indicating bottem at 12 feet any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated ... Thanks

Possible the zoom function is enabled.
Try going to youtube and use the search words Humminbird 35, 45, 55.

This could happen if you are fishing the edge of a steep drop, where one side of the cone is 12FOW while the other side is 22FOW. I believe they call this the "dead zone". I have seen this on my unit fishing Loughborough. When you drop your lure it will go down to the red bottom but will keep dropping another 5-10 feet. If you use narrow cone it will reduce the effect but will not eliminate it. The only way to get rid of this is to move away from the drop. Not sure if this is what you are seeing but it is one possibility

That makes sense , the spot we fished did have a drop I noticed on my underwater camera , I don't have a flasher and not aware of all the little tricks , we never did end up moving around , ill give it another try in the morning in a few holes , thanks for the advice EvesR!

Use the wide cone for that depth set your zoom so it's just a bit above bottom so you can see a fish worked up off bottom
You may have the target function set but try the 3 rd setting for colours give you five different ones and check your gain setting

Thanks again , I guess its a common problem hummingbird has been having with the heads not working properly in some of the ice 55 ..been through all the settings had it checked over ,tried different depths , just not functioning properly, there having new one sent monday.
