Fellow fishers,

As I am a newer father, 2 girls one is two the other is 4 months, I have NO time to fish during the day. I love being a dad and wouldn't trade it for the world. However, my other love is fishing and I rarely get out anymore. Seeing how the girls go to bed about 7 at night, I was thinking of getting out after bedtime.

Any tips for going after nightfall? I live very close to Myers pier and getting to the bay is quick.

Thanks for your help,

Mike

I can't help you with your question, I have always taken off as soon as the pm bite was over, but have often wondered the same thing.
I'm thinking of putting an 8x8 out there next year for a few sleepovers and make a true weekend of it.
I'm looking forward to the comments from the others.

Enjoy your time with your girls, time goes too fast.

I'm like you guys and my available time is always more available later on as well. I tried in Trenton and Pointe Anne this year between 6 and 10 PM. I started in the usual day spots and moved into shallower water thinking they would move in there but never had a sniff. Any night time tips would help here as well.

On a side note, it is pretty cool at night as the lights from town make it easy to see out there and there's no one else around.

I'm.the same... 2 boys under 2 years old. Bed time is 7:30 so its either just as its getting dark or the night bite. I've done a few all nighters on the Trent and can only say that the bite is random at best. Fish are aggressively hunting food at night but being migratory fish... they don't stay in one spot for very long.

Not really sure what the trick is for night fishing but I have had luck staying out well past dark.. glow n darks do seem to work alot better but i have caught fish on non glow at night.(guess they have good EYES???). To me its like fishing thru the day.. you'll get the odd fish but its not like the good biting hours.

add a glow stick to your line/ bait, bigger profile bait seems to produce the most strikes.

can be bought at Canadian tire, but are much cheaper online, there is various versions that work, inline, line clip, etc.

Going to have to get some glowing lures by the sound of it then. We walked out and tried Point Anne last night after work and marked them, but they wouldn't touch anything we tried. Not even a plain old worm on a jig. They would follow it up and down, but not touch it. We worked our way closer and closer to shore drilling holes from 14 to 8 feet deep with the same results.
Nonetheless, being the only chance we get most of the time, it's still good to get out.

That's it bud... just the fun of getting out can be enough sometimes. Like last night, tried to get the bike out off the lighthouse in bayside and buried it. Took 3 hrs to get out, set up, then only mark followers... lol we must really love to icefish :) I've had some good luck so far this year but am still looking for my pb
