I use them all year long as a call bait and this year especially early in the season %75 o the ish i caught over 7lbs where on this lure. I actually use the northland tackle version in the live forage perch pattern and no minnow. Generally i setup my w7 uv jiggin rap as my main jigging line with a minnow and the crank right beside it at about 7 feet off bottom. I put my ducer inbetween them so i can pick up both. I find that if i get a walleye that is just looking at the jigging rap and is not active i can rattle the crank and i gets them fired up. most of the time they end up hitting the jiggin rap but sometimes they smash the crank. I broke my heavy action mr walleye rod in three pieces on a hookset this year on a hog using the crank. When they hit them they hit them hard generally. Good luck!

Here is the link for the northland baits. They are cheaper than the live targets. i use the 2 1/5"

I've never used the Live Target, but have used both the Northland and Rapala Rippin Rap and Clackin Rap. Have caught fish on all three. I've even had perch hit the Clackin Rap, so never think your lure is too big. According to a few articles I have read, if you set up a dead stick 2 feet away, there's a pretty good chance the fish will hit one of them when he comes in to check it out.
