First time coming to BOQ to fish hard water and I struggled to narrow down locations to fish prior to coming. I decided to try Wellers on the way to be able to setup early for the morning bite. Two of us left at 2:30am and were completely set up fishing at 7am. We were the only ones to park at Smokes Point Rd each day and brought sled due to the reports of slush. Sled, Atv, and walk are all fine currently after the freeze, and before the snow Tuesday night I would have used skates to get out if I were walking. Lot’s of ice, approximately 18”s.
We had a double hitter in our first hour and had a fantastic morning on the ice. I lost a monster eye at noon that broke off after we iced 4 eyes, a big pike, and several perch. We landed two more good eating eyes and lost a couple nice ones; it was very windy at 3pm when decided to pack up, get more bait, and check in. Fished trenton that evening and decided to go back to Wellers Bay in the morning. Caught a nice 3.5lber before 8am at the exact same time as the previous days double hitter. We were very excited and believed we would catch many more similar to the previous day where they hit all day long while utilizing a big variety of tackle. Unfortunately we could only hook onto perch for the remainder of the day, caught one more small eye late afternoon.
We fished Quinte near trent river the last morning before departing with no bites. At Wellers we entered the ice at Smokes Pt Rd and fished 17’ fow at the 19’ depth on charts directly north of Edwards Dr.; if you see the 19'/20' hole on chart we were directly north of that at the separate 19' small area. We were concern about making the long trek without success due to the reports of the bite being very slow. I found it to be a great trip with 8 eyes iced, a nice pike caught, and kept 20 great eating jumbo perch.
I really appreciate the information I gained on here, and hope this helps anyone heading out for the last couple of days.
