tried my first try at getting some slabs threw the ice started at oak lake and managed to land one pike switched up and went to the trent and there were a lot of fish down there according to my fish liar but no takers what a nice day to fish but man are they hard to catch now I know why all the tight lipped anglers say nothing cause when you catch these fine fish its like winning a gold at the Olympics need less to say we came home empty handed but we will not give up!!lots of time left

Even on soft water they are hard to find, sometimes. They are a schooling fish, and when you find that school, doesn't take long to get your fill. I love finding them behind me on WestLake

You should all come to my neck of the woods in the kawarthas- rice lake has some pretty sweet crappies and good size ones at that. You just gotta know the trick to catching them. Heck I'd be out there right now if my wife didn't go to visit her parents back in her hometown of st.catharines. Sometimes there is something to be said for two cars and I have booked the next two days off as well. Still lots of ice, about 22" or more. Here's to hoping she is home early tuesday and then there is next weekend if anyone wants to join me.

All the best out there!

A little tip for u in the spring crappie spawn in channels
And creeks or shallow weedy areas
off main bodies of water so when looking for the late
In the winter what do most fish do before the spawn
They stage ....so look for one of those areas
And find the first drop off into deeper water and move
Around a lot can't say I've ever been crappie fishing in
Through the ice and not drilled atleast 12 holes
Sometimes up to 30 just trying to find them
Once u do its game on but if u do catch a couple and stop
Marking them move back to ur other holes and if there not
There keep moving ....finding good areas and moving
Around is the key to crappie ...

I got 10-15 on Tuesday night went out last night and got a dozen or so one big one and kept three, was out mid day today in the wind got 35 but nothing worth keeping.. got some decent sunfish if anyones into them. looking to give Oak lake a try this week and looking for any info as I have never fished it. Even if anyone knows where I can get a contour map of the lake would be a lot of help! thanks
