Went to visit Hay Bay and the campground to check on the boats, get some stuff and take some stuff out.

The snow is melting slowly.

We walked on the ice and It's THICK..... It has cracked along the shore as though the water has risen and it cracked the ice.

It will take a lot of heat and if we don't get the heat, then we could be waiting for 2 - 3 weeks. for open water.

BayBoy is back and we look forward to his reports on the ice movement.

Stay Tuned.

Grizz & I checked out Athol Bay yesterday for the brown trout stocking and it is frozen at least half way out or more. Maybe even 3/4s with huge ice banks.

The Beach street launch still has a couple feet of ice and snow on it. The rain this week might free that up.

I have wanted to try lake trout in Athol Bay for a few years now. Where would I be able to launch a 16 ft aluminum from to get there? It's not a big boat so I would be nervous travelling too far the way the lake can blow up.

Unless of course the Outlet river is open all the way out- it's really hit and miss- sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Really cuts down travel time as you can launch right in east lake. I know kayaking takes me about 10mins to get from one side to the other. I think, but can't recall for sure- there may be a boat launch area at salmon point- can anyone verfiy this?

We caught a lot of lakers last spring while fishing browns. Usually after the 10th of April when the smelt move in to spawn. That could be later this year.

Hell, one day Fred even caught 3 walleye off West Point.

As for small boats, I fished off the County for years in a 12' tinny. Pick your days and watch the weather. Even safer today with all the weather apps on the smart phones.

Just what Al said. Lots of Lakers and Browns to be had. Kayakers have had great luck right in front of Wellington.
