I typically read this board when I get a chance (I'm not much of a chatter / poster?) but now I feel compelled to do so:

Do people just not like the Kiwanis Derby or something? It seems like everything they do they get ripped a new one for?

The camping in Trenton - not their fault but they get ripped into and the event gets trashed?

A date mistake - they get ripped into as being incompetent?

Prizes - regardless of what they do its not good enough.

Why even bother with the event at all if so many of you seem to think the organizers are useless?

I looked at this year's prizes - I think they're pretty good. The date issue - yeah, I looked at and looked again and only on the poster is it wrong, everywhere else its right (OMG I think they might be human and can make mistakes). Last year's Bay Marine thing - pfft, its their event and they can do what they want.

With the exception of a handful of people on here I don't think anyone has thanked them in years for putting all the work into putting it on. I wouldn't blame if they called it quits after this year and they fold up just like the Napanee one did.

Frankly, those Kiwanis folks deserve a bit of credit for taking all the time it takes to put it on considering all the bullshit they take for it.

CHEERS..................Couldn't agree more. I think people lose sight of the fact that this is a major fund raiser for this group. I don't always fish it every year but that's my choice. This derby has been on as long as I can remember. I can't imagine an opener without it. Whether I am able to fish it or not I have always enjoyed going in and looking at leader board and having a cold one. I think the organizers do a fantastic job year in year out. They handle the complaints they get as best they can. Quint West thru a curve ball at them by paving where the event has been held but instead of closing up shop they have adapt and moved it. Nobody likes change but it is what it is. And the big picture everyone seems to forget is they are VOLUNTEERS!!!!! Fundraising for all the good charitable work they do. So by all means .....keep complaining and griping. Then try to imagine an opening day without this derby...................

Here's to the organizer's of this derby.......CHEERS

I completely agree about supporting this event and do so by buying a ticket. Besides you're going to be out fishing anyway why not throw some money in and make it a bit more exiciting. Great draw prizes and funds support alot of community based projects. No down side in my books.

Well said, i feel the same way as dan on this, Plus allot of us (on this forum) are lucky enough to live close enough that we don't have to pay for motels, boat rental's etc.

This fills hotel rooms, sells tackle, gas, other related items. from Trenton to kingston.

I would like to say Thank you to pro tackle who donates prizes every year.

Simply put, I wouldn't let others who "always have a negative opinion about everything" deter you. They are simply not the part of the larger group that spends the money to enjoy such events, and only complain about the one that got away.

I've always enjoyed the derby, its a well run event and I have been a part of it for most of my adult life.
That said I have no problem if someone on this board points out an error on the dates, it is a big mistake, no getting around it, and the folks from the derby seem to appreciate it being discovered. Folks on this board always get cranked up between hard water and soft water fishing seasons. Its all good.
