Took a trip to the county to see what has happened in the past week, Adolphus Reach is partially covered with ice from the Conway to east of Keiths Shoal. Open water from the ferry to the cement plant (perhaps it's a greyish ice cover)

Athol Bay is ice free, except the shoreline has ice along it. East Lake is ice covered.

Travelled along 49 and could see Long Reach, ice free from Thompsons Point to Desronto.

Hay Bay has ice across it mouth from Shermans to Thompsons Cove.

Ice covered from there to Ram Island.

Hay Bay from Ram Island is open water almost to Pickeral Park.

What a dramatic change in a week......

It will ALL be gone within a week (maybe????)

The question is what is the temp of the water????? A key ingredient in the spawn.

Things are looking better than last week.

Stay Tuned.

Al has a thermometer in the water at the Wellington pen. I'm sure he can tell you. Mind you, the water will be warm there compared to WestLake.

Report today was 40 F right in front of Wellington. Not Athol Bay or West Point.

Still cold there from what I heard.

Al

We saw a Boat today in front of Outlet Beach.

We'll see what happens tomorrow.

We found water up to 42 near Wellington but once you got to where the ice is pushed up against the shoreline it cools quickly. Athol bay was 34 and the fish either weren't in shallow or not biting. There is sill lots of ice on the shoreline in Athol bay. We managed one laker near wellington and that was all!
