Nothing to do today, so Laker John & I headed for Athol Bay to check out the browns.
Left Kingston @ 0530 and were fishing at 0815. Trolled the Salmon Point shoreline and only hooked the bottom. Trolled over to the beach and found the green water, switched to stickbaits with rattles and it only took about five minutes and we had a Fish ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This fish fought as hard as any brown trout we've caught, it was hooked on the outside board approx 150' out and it swam across the stern and I had to reel in both inside boards and it was all John could do was to hold on and slooowly bring the board in and then raised the fish and I scooped with the net and it was ours.
It tipped the scales at 4.5 lbs, why did it fight so hard, it looked as if the second treble had swung under the fish and it used its body for the extra power.
We turned and head back into the wind and within fifteen minutes, the lake side inner board fired and I grabbed the rod, saw the fish jump and then saw the fish swirl on the top and it was GONE - c'est la vie.........
That fish struck a Smithwick Rogue and John's fish hit a Husky Jerk, both blue/silver and orange. The baits were 25 feet behind the board as we were fishing in 5 feet of water.
The off-shore winds only bothered us around 1300 when they blew up and the waves out of the lee were nudging 1.5 feet. A quick up and down the beach and we hit the ramp at 1500.
Forgot to mention the water temps, in the low 40's along the Salmon Point shore and we found the water as high as 46 degs along the Outlet Beach.A good day, one for two.
Will have to put the browns on hold for a while.....
Stay Tuned
