Hello All,
This is my first post on this site, just found out about it last week from a friend. I will be making my first trip to BOQ in mid to late Nov. weather permitting. Sounds like the walleye fishing can be great at this time. Will be staying in Picton and am wondering what type of boat ramp is available? I have a 23ft Wellcraft with 200hp outboard . I fish Erie out of Michigan waters and have planer boards and other walleye related items on board. Do most guys use in-line boards while trolling or are my large boards ok. I will be ordering a hot spots map of the east side of BOQ but was wondering what depths I will be facing. Is the bay effected by certain wind directions as Erie or can you fish on most days because of protection in the bay itself. Thanks for any info. Great site and will surely be asking more questions in the coming weeks prior to our trip.
Tight lines

Hey Tom-O,

Welcome aboard :!:

The ramp at Picton is very good. Wide cement ramp. Only problem you may encounter depending on when you come is wether or not it ices up!!

Be prepared in case it does, with some sand or whatever. If you're ready for that, you should be covered :!:

Be sure to let us know how it goes

I agree with Big O, the Picton harbour ramp would be best and you could probably moor the boat there overnight.

Be sure you have SALT for the ramp if you're here in late Nov.

Welcome aboard and read the posts and try and get a chart to see the area.

TomO,
With your rig and experience on Erie you will have absolutely no problems. Most of the guys do run in-line boards but you will also see lots with the big boards out. The wind is usually west and in Nov a north one as well. There are alot of high bluffs along the shore and on any given day there is always a patch of water with some protection. The presentation of choice is stickbaits(manns, deep Huskyjerks, thundersticks, deep rouges...). From time to time a jig bite can be had at the deep hole in front of thompsons point (champs, hopkins spoons or jigs tipped with minnow). Good luck and lets hear how you make out!

Thanks for the replies. I've ordered the Manns baits from their web site in different colors that seem to work best at BOQ. We run a lot of deep Reefrunners and deep little rippers on erie so I will be trying them also. Could you explain the slot limits for non-residents, and also is this area one rod per person when trolling. When we fish in Erieau, Canada on the Northwest side of Erie we are allowed two rods per person. I will schroll through the archives here to learn more about regs but just wanted your inputs. Thanks again, and I definitely will post results weather they are good or bad.

Tom O, although I'm sure everyone on this site can quickly tell you the slot limits, you should never trust that. Take a few minutes and review the Regs and be 100% of what they really are. It may save you a few dollars and a unfortunate run in with the MNR. :P

The dividing line for the number of rods per person is the adolphustown ferry. You can run 2 lines per person east of the ferry and only 1 per person west of the ferry....Larry

Thanks Larry. I'm waiting for my fishing hot spots map to get here so I can see these different spots you're talking about. I'm considering a guide for the first day we are there, but between the three of us that are coming ,we're all experienced Lake Erie fisherman we hopefully can work out a good game plan. I'll be reading updates and weather reports right up till we leave.Hopefully the fishing gods will be good to us but I also know what weather and walleyes can be like at certain times. We'll give it a good shot though. Thanks

Tom I'm heading down there from Ottawa about the same time, havent decided which weekend yet though. It's always been unreal there that time of year, since high school 7 years ago it's only been missed one year. I grew up on the bay and if you're experienced on Erie then you'll be just fine down there.....guaranteed.

I'll be the guy in the bassboat missin the engine! :?
