Hi SD; haven't been out so much as the reports of shad in have hindered... but, i did manage to get out 2wice in the last few weeks. nothing around your neck of the woods, aka south bay area, but more or less Belleville and Big bay.

The first trip, not so much related to the Shad being in, but the sheep have been spawning on most of the shoals, driving the fish out of the weeds, but picked up 2 around point Anne.

Last week, i scraped out 4 on Point Anne, but still marked lots of bait fish off the shoals in the deeper water. I had to work hard to get them, and didn't get a thing on the weed lines around Big Island Shoal, Rush, or Minnie Blakely.

hopefully i will get out this week if the wife lets me and have something to report.

I have focused my cranks on the live target banana shad style baits and have been doing great with them. I read a few posts on this board about the lures being over rated, and me having a tool box full of them ( unused of course), wanted to give them a proper "shake". I have caught pretty much most my fish this year on either the Golden Shiner or Gizzard Shad style "rattle baits" casting primarily around weed lines, or the banana/stick baits in rainbow shad/golden colors... i feel any will work, but i have been having great luck with these particularly ... as much as i hate to troll, they have been out-fishing my CC-Shad's and Shad Raps.. which is pretty hard to do year over year.

If i where to head out tomorrow, i would be hitting Point Anne, Ship Wreck island and the north shore of Big Island along the weed lines.
B

Was out at hay bay this evening with my dad, we got 6 keepers, threw 2 small ones back, a silver bass, lost 2 and 10 sheep. It was a good evening until we went to load, Tylercurt was loading ahead of us and a couple of a-holes had just finished leaving their fish remains in the grass. Cannot understand the ignorence of people cleaning their catch and dumping the remains beside the water. Anyway there are a few Goldie's out there.

SD we fished shermans point the past two weekends and did well, mostly small eaters in the 19" range, nothing bigger than 3lbs. But sheepshead, wow, I have never caught so many 10+lbs ever, 6 last weekend alone, biggest was pushing 16lbs. Lots of fun, but not what we were after...

Help a couple guys land some last weekend one 8-9LB and another guy a 11-12 LB one within 20 minutes of each other the other night fishing from shore. First walleye both of them had ever caught and neither of them had a net so they were pretty happy I was there with mine. Other then those two I had not seen one caught in about three weeks since the Alewifes have been in. Lots of 10 - 20LB sheepheads gobbling them up and the numbers are starting to go down. A few week ago you could practically walk on the backs of the Alewifes but they are now spread out in small schools of 20-40 in a group.
