Took a couple of folks from the park out fishing for a few hours on monday. Was pleasantly surprised to find the eyes were on fire. We got 9 eyes with most around 3 lbs and two that were over 5 and one at 6.5 lbs. Everything came throwing white spinnerbaits in the 6-12 ft range and retrieving them very slowly and close to bottom. A few big gators and largemouth were game too. We left the docks at 10:30 and were back by 1:30. The water was pea soup green with heavy algae growth on top.

Spinnerbaits eh Dan...nice to catch walleye other than trolling every once in a while. I was at Shermans on Sunday, and didn't really feel like trolling cause there were so many boats playing follow the leader, so I set up in 6-12 FOW also, hit the spot lock on the trolling motor, and started ripping bucktails to see if I could get a few walleye. We only landed 1 eye, but had the best bass outing in the last couple of years for us. 10-12 bass in about 3.5 hours. Was surprised to see how the bass would swallow those bucktails. Also landed a 20+pound carp to boot...lol I like trying different lures on different bodies of water. There will usually be some sort of surprise!!!!

Congrats on the awesome walleye outing. Some nice size and numbers....

Walleye on spinnerbaits and Bass on bucktail hair jigs....gotta love quinte!!

Walleye9, how thick was the weeds you were rippin' the bucktails in? or was it more open water? I'm assuming smallies?

Cool stuff, both of you gents. :)

Steve....they were all largemouth and a couple small pike. The weeds were in patches and not too thick. Not a weedline so to speak. I would just cruise around slowly till I could see the weeds on the sonar, or by eye, then anchor on top of them. Made 20 or so casts each, then moved on. 1 or 2 fish caught almost on every new location we moved to. I've never used bucktails on Quinte before, but I use them all the time in thick weeds on Kawartha Lakes for walleye. I do catch the occasional bass with them, but never like this....lol

Ya Steve, it was kinda unexpected....Doesn't happen very often. I wasn't actually anchored. I was using the spot lock/anchor mode on the minn kota....lol If I can make it back to that spot some time this year, I'll throw some tubes or swimbaits around and hopefully all hell will break loose!!!
