I finally got a chance to visit Hay Bay this year and it is interesting fishing trip. I visited last year for bass and the result is amazing, especially for me who is targeting quantity not size. I also visited last Nov and tried trolling (not picton, I want zero risk) in the bay with wormharness and reef800 and TailerDancer... anyway... zero. So I switched to jig... well... no 28" girl but I did landed a couple of 24+ and around 5 eating size!
Long story short, this year, I trolled for one hour with many boat... nothing... also keep an eye on other boats ... nothing... well... that's it... go bass fishing... spinnerbait... bang bang bang--- Walleyes! So, find the largest (1oz) SPB and go walleye fishing... nothing... one hour later... that's it... try jig... bang bang bang---basses!
I got it.
So, the next day, I fished walleye at early morning and before dust with spinnerbaits on my bass areas and wow... pattern is right.
After 9am, go bass fishing in my walleye water... no hit. In the afternoon, go bass fishing in my walleye water again, no action till 5pm... bass bites like no tomorrow for 1 hour... completely shut down. at 8pm, go back to bass spot for walleye... landed the biggest one on this trip: 26"+.
Hay bay is too far. Maybe the next time I should visit trenton or bellville to re-test my pattern for one day trip. This weekend is cold front, I guess no fish will bite. So maybe the next weekend. But I will not post any report if skunked
