Quinte Fishing

After pulling my shack by hand for the last 4 seasons I'm thinking of getting a sled or wheeler. I've already made a list of pros & cons & the wheeler seems to win. But the one thing that keeps coming back is the con of the wheeler not being much use if there is to much snow or slush on the ice. So I'm looking for feedback from folks that use a wheeler or sled on the BOQ as to what they prefer. I'm also wondering if you're a wheeler owner how many times have you been stuck or had to leave it on shore due to on ice slop or snow. Of course owning both would be great just not an option this year. Anyways thanks in advance & looking forward to jigging through a hole for some gold!

I,d go with the 4x4 when I had my bike I put chains on it and a lite plow if the snow was to deep make your own trail and you can use it all year round. you get a lot more use for the bucks you are going to spend on it .

I got out 81 times last year on the ice, love my Honda Foreman!

thats what i had . I,ve been married twice and I still say the biggest mistake I made was selling my bike lol

I am fortunate enough to have both , Pros and Cons , old beater sled is way cheaper and you can run it on the ice, snow or not , 4 wheelers will get buried if the snow gets deep unless you buy tracks , when are you doing most of your fishing early or late season , early season 4 x4 bikes work great , later sleds rule , if you journey to back lakes a sled will make life easier , get a bike stuck in two feet of slush and snow and your day is done , you will be soaked in sweat , sleds you just go faster to stay on top .

I have both and for many years didnt even use my atv for ice fishing and walked unless it was glare ice or light powder since getting a sled the atv doesnt get used

atv takes up a lot more space in the truck too and its hard to bring everything I need in an 8 foot bed without a trailer

sled is a lot lighter and the weights dispersed and less likely to go through any thin spots

if you are buying an ice fishing machine go sled if you looking for a year round toy you can get an atv but realize some days you will be better off walking

Thanks for the feedback. I almost bought a wheeler on the weekend but last minute went with the sled based on last year seeing 2 wheelers stuck towards the end of the season when the slush was deep while sleds drove by. That being said I do plan on buying a wheeler in the spring just to be able to run the young lad through the woods.
I picked this 1991 500 Yamaha Venture up for $800US electric start & reverse exactly what I was hoping for,

I tried out a friends tracked atv while up in Labrador, middle of winter in some pretty deep snow, whole new world, it went places snowmobiles could not go, when it did get stuck, just back up and hit it the second time, not fast speed wise but truly unbelievable for where it can go
