Hi guys. This year I want to experiment more with segmented Leadcore set ups. I plan on running some 3 color core set ups behind a planer board and was just wondering how much backing line after the Leadcore you guys like to use before clipping it onto the planer board? Itching to get out there. Making the trip to the bay next weekend. Thank you.

If your running a 3colir then u will have appoximatrly 130'o line out behind board. After your lead is all out, just put another 20'-30' of your (backing) out. You just wanna make sure all of your lead is in the water.

Why not use a snap, Walleyes don't fight at the best of times.
Sheephead would give a better fight.

What release are you using on your boards? Its not recommended that you pinch the leadcore as it can damage it. I agree with the snap weight or inline suggestion. Personally i am not a huge leadcore fan but im not that smart anyway.

I am using the Offshore boards with OR16 red clips. I definitely will be letting out some backer line after the core like Pickerel Killer suggested before pinching it to the board. I will be trying snap weights on other set ups as well. Trial and error.

You can let out as much line as you want after the board once all the lead core is out. That extra line will not affect the depth and is beneficial if the eyes like long leads. There is no magic number once all the lead is out.

With leadcore you should always put etleast 20-30 feet of line out before you put your boards on. That way you are getting the full effect out your lead. Your lead will rise/fall and slither it's way through the water, with allot less subtle change than a snap wieght. Also a deep diving crank will run allot better off of leadcore if your into that kind of thing. Either or can have there days! Good luck!!

I love to run lead core on Quinte and Erie.

This weekend we ran two 3 colour core set ups and took a couple fish.

My set up consists of about a 50 foot mono or floro leader (12-14 pound test) then my 3 colours of leadcore, then a 30-40 foot section of 25 pound mono, then about 150 yards of 30 pound braid.

I have the 30-40 foot section of mono between the leadcroe and the backing to clip the planer board to. It is a lot of connections but so far no issues.

I also carry a couple 10 colour lead core setup, that have a splice of about 30-40 feet of mono in the middle, allowing me to use the rod as a 5 colour set up, clipping the boat to the mono in the middle of the core, or let out all the core and run a 10 colour lead core.
