Quinte Fishing

Heading out for our annual fall trip to BOQ in a few days & might experiment with snap weights on our boards for the first time. Made myself a few using 1 oz casting sinkers attached to OffShore tackle small board type releases but don't have a clue how much deeper this would get me. Say I'm pulling Deep Tail Dancers 11 or Reef Runners 800 with 200 ft. of line out (should get cranks down to around 28 or 29 ft.) & pinch a weight 50 ft. in front of crankbaits, anyone has an idea how much deeper I'd go

Will be trolling Adolphus reach 20-21 & 22 nd & hope to post nice pics & report next weekend...

My understanding was that a 1 oz. snap weight would add 1/3 of lures dive distance to total depth, 2 oz. would add 2/3 of lures dive distance to total depth, and 3 oz would double lures total dive depth. I'm sure others with more experience with snap weights can confirm or correct me.

I use the 50/50 rule, put the snap weight 50 feet in front of the lure, then 50 feet to the board, 1 oz drops it 10 feet, 2 oz drops 20 feet, 3 to 30. Look up the chart depth that your lure runs at for 100 feet of line out and then add the additional depth caused by the weight.

1 oz snap weight 20 feet ahead of the lure adds 1/3 dive depth....

So a lure capable of 30 foot dive will go 40

Guys...hopefully the chart attached. I use snap weights quite a bit here in Muskoka and have had some good success, most with Worm Harnesses and spinners but I don't see why you couldn't use the weights with the deep divers.

Mike Rousseau's method is the one you are looking for. This method is used for deep diving crankbaits. The chart that WalleyeWon provided (50/50 method) is used for baits that do not dive on their own. Worm harness, shallow or floating stickbaits etc... As you can see on the chart, boat speed plays a huge role in depth when using the 50/50 method. These methods are all based on using line with the diameter of 10lb mono. So keep in mind that if you are using thicker or thinner line, your depth may vary a bit up or down.
