getting ready for hard water fishing and wondering if anyone out there has experience with hand held sonars? I'm looking at the Marcum and Exilar models. Wondering how effective these small flashlight size depth finders might be?

My wife has been bugging me for a Marcum Showdown troller for 2 years. I'd love to hear from users that own them.

I've had mine for years. Works great. It will shoot through clear ice if there is a film of water between the sounder and the ice

To Jumbo Perch: thanks for your reply however you did not say what type of hand held depth sonar you use?

And, for all, has anyone gone to the Radio World seminars before and are they worth the trip?

OOOPS! Thanks for the pic of the Vexilar. my fault did not wait for the down load.

Radio World seminars are well worth the trip, if you stick around after or go early you can talk 1 on 1, or ask questions during the seminar.
I have learned a ton about my units, never new my hd's units could generate there own map's based on the information I gather.

I had a Strike master hand held sonar that worked great thru the ice but one drop on the ice from a frozen mitten and the screen broke, replaced with a Showdown troller and I love it and have been using it 3 years now.
